yes.

special media is needed to provide massive surface area for bacteria...

bioballs would get stuck together and create dead spots etc....
 
may sound kinda newbish but I can't make out what kinda media is that. could u elaborate ???

very nice reactor though. would love to be able to replicate one myself. thanks for sharing. hard to come by such essential information.

Looks similar in design to kadlnes expect more cylinder in design, any experience with it? Better or worse?
