Derived from my older thread, this isn't on the same topic as that so =new thread
older thread for anyone, for whatever reason

The scenario- I have a bunk bed, but I'm just one sleeping on it so I thought I might be able to remove the top bunk and reinforce the bottom bunk (also takeaway the mattress there).
This is what it looks like and approx. measurements.

I feel like there is a lot of potential if I can do it right, but what do I know; I've never done anything like this before.
Hence making a thread.

This is where I sleep but I'm willing to make sacrifices, everyone does for this hobby.

Thanks for any help in advance!

would be much easier to scratch that idea imo and go for a plywood tank built from scratch! there are plenty of plans available online and ur local timber merchant (or bnq) will be happy to cut the wood to size.
also u would be able to stick a fluidized bed sump under it as well oh and in glass it would weigh about 3000 kilos. aint no bed i know that would even come close. (or upstairs floor!) often they are made of mdf or laminated chip.

if i build a 6 x 4 tank i use 24, 4 x 4 support beams attached to a 12 3x6 beams of the actual frame. with it being so tall as well id slap some triangle supports too.
also u would probably need 25mm glass ( this is determined by depth rather than length and width, although being 4 ft wide is a factor)

if space is a factor, build the plywood tank and chain ur bed to the rafters in the ceiling! with the rocking motion and the sound of the tank it will feel like being on a boat

if money is a factor, sell the bed! plywood is pretty cheap! lol

I actually did this with my bed :)
I got lucky though. Built the bed then bought the tank. I love it. I'll send you pics sometime Friday.

Btw, if you do build the bed, I'd sleep on it a week or so so you don't break the tank if the rank breaks. But you probably knew that.
Good luck,
John :)

Thanks for answering!

I could sell the bed and build something even better. Which seems like a good idea now that you brought it up.
I don't really care where I have to sleep as long as I'm able to look at an awesome aquarium at night.

Pictures would be really helpful, I'll have to see how much my bed can hold

Is it possible to make a chamber in the back of the tank for the sump?
I'm not sure if the space below the bed is tall enough, but it is plenty wide.
