DIY Bunk bed --> Aquarium idea

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
it is but i seriously question the ability to support 3k kg of any bed. you ever seen, the worlds fattest man on discovery??

to stick the sump in the back you simply need to partition off the rear of the tank. 1.5 ft should be adequate of your 4ft available. with a plane of glass.

drill some holes for the inlet and outlet, ad some partitions and stick a pump in the other end. i would recomend a fluidzed bed

if ur going 4 ft deep you will need 25mm glass.

What if I reinforce the bottom of the bed with braces and instead of the wood planks that hold up the mattress there would be a thick sheet of sturdier wood or metal?
All the weight would be going down on the legs of the bed and the surface area of the bottom of the tank, right?

I'll look into the drilling process more, for the glass and building supplies I'm pretty sure my friends step-dad would be able to help a lot (he's building their house, and does other projects like that), not to mention that friend likes building a lot also.

Thanks for the help!

Here are my low quality pics…water is really green because of an accident a few minutes ago :( plan on doing heavy maintenance soon.
Also I built mine differently. I did a loft over an aquarium, but I like your idea too. The one thin I would say is if you put it on the bottom bunk you would need braces below it so it doesn't fall and above so it doesn't collapse. Otherwise, good luck and if you have more questions let me know

Nice aquarium, (good luck with the maintenance!)
Did you do any preparing for the aquarium with just the loft part?
Also, what do you mean by braces above so it doesn't collapse?

No, Before the aquarium i had a couch. I had no idea i would be crazy enough to put an aquarium under it. And I mean bracing above the aquariumso the weight doesnt collapse the bed. Sorry about the wording. And thanks :) I need to do aquascaping soon. Just did a 50% water change and the water is still green :( just put some algae fix in, hopefully that will help. Hopefully i cleared it up, again let me know if you have any more questions.

I'm not going to be sleeping on the top, if I do this I'll take out the top mattress and wood so that I have easy access to the aquarium.
Or would the braces above also be supporting the bottom part?
I've never done anything like this, sorry for all the questions

Hmm, honestly I don't know. I thought you were talking about something completly different. I'm sorry but i might not be able to help you and I am by no means good with these things. I can give you some of my ideas if you want, but no gurantee they will hold water (get it, get it?)

But seriously, I would see if you could find a professinal carpenter
Good luck

What ideas do you have?

I know some people who I would be able to consult with about the construction.
