DIY C02 system

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
no but if you figure this out please let me know

Getting it 100% sealed is a PITA if you don't have the right stuff.

There are literally hundreds of Threads and Articles on DIY CO2 on this Forum, and many others. Use the search key.

As for the proper sealing, mentioned above, the best bet is to drill a hole in your bottle cap the same diam. as the the internal diam. of your hose. Most silicone tube has an ID of 4.5mm (OD about 5.5mm), so drill to this size, or even a fraction smaller, say 4mm. Cut your tube at an angle to make a point and pull it thru the hole with needle-nose pliers. It will seal 110%. Promise.

Agreed. With a little work you can squeeze the hose through and with some glue it seals right up, worked for me the first time. Be sure to use an airline check valve in the line too.

I have been using it for about a year injecting it into my canister intake with great results for the plants. A word of caution, watch your PH. On my 30 gallon if I hook it up right after mixing it will will drop the ph a full point or two, plenty to kill fish. Have two CO2 bottles and mix one in advance works to keep it stable for me, and don't forget and have it run out.

I don't see how you can DIY a bottled system, other than assembling the pieces together yourself.

Very cheap. Other than these industrial lookers there are 2 other popular types. 1) Red Sea (and one other that I can't remember the name) makes a CO2 system that runs off of paintball gun tanks, it's pricey and doesn't last as long 2)ADA makes one that runs off the tiny CO2 cartidges for nano tanks. This won't work unless you have a small (<10g) tank. 3) I know, I said 2; this isn't a CO2. You could always get a carbon block diffuser

Sorry, totally misunderstood the point of this Thread. I'm sure the title read "DIY CO2".

How is bottled CO2 "DIY"??

AND you've posted a link to a "soda bottle/yeast DIY" article. Must be like the Chewbacca defence...
