Sorry, totally misunderstood the point of this Thread. I'm sure the title read "DIY CO2".

How is bottled CO2 "DIY"??

AND you've posted a link to a "soda bottle/yeast DIY" article. Must be like the Chewbacca defence...

'Chewbacca Defense' definition: (from the Urban Dictionary)When you use a totally bull**** (sic) argument that has absolutley nothing to do with the case. This term comes from the popular TV show South Park

"I hope Johnny Cochrane doesn't use his famous Chewbacca Defense.... This is Chewbacca, Chewbacca is a Wookiee from the planet Kashyyyk, but Chewbacca lives on the planet Endor. Now, think about that. That does not make sense! Why would a Wookiee - an eight foot tall Wookiee - want to live on Endor with a bunch of two foot tall Ewoks? That does not make sense! What does that have to do with this case? Nothing. Ladies and gentlemen, it has nothing to do with this case! It does not make sense! None of this makes sense. If Chewbacca lives on Endor, you must acquit! The defense rests. DAMNIT!"

I don't see how my thread relates to South Park...

However, the thread is intended to discuss DIY CO2 systems. The gas is part of the system agreed but admitedly I'm more interested in an assembly of a difuser of some type, regulator (?), gas bottle, needle valve etc.

If someone wants to talk about fermentation then I'm okay with that too...
Has anyone put something like this together?

I don't see how you can DIY a bottled system, other than assembling the pieces together yourself.

Very cheap. Other than these industrial lookers there are 2 other popular types. 1) Red Sea (and one other that I can't remember the name) makes a CO2 system that runs off of paintball gun tanks, it's pricey and doesn't last as long 2)ADA makes one that runs off the tiny CO2 cartidges for nano tanks. This won't work unless you have a small (<10g) tank. 3) I know, I said 2; this isn't a CO2. You could always get a carbon block diffuser

Awsome links. Thanks!
This is probabaly the way to go rather than mess around with substitute parts. My ultimate goal is maximize plant growth in order to purify water in my system, therebye reducing water changes.

Cutting down on water changes will save time and money on water, rift lake salts, and buffers. It will also allow me to ensure a more consistent water quality in the long run.
