Nice Idea man !. I was also looking the same thing. even i went into the market to saw one PVC pipe the largest diameter is 6 inch. IS it the same u r using.
Please if possible upload a video of it.
will interior parts exposed
great IDea.

The pipe used is 4 inches, that's what I could get easily without buying 20 feet long pipe! My next one will be 8 inches. Epoxy was used only on the screws passing through the pipe (for the little iron angles). The 8 inche pipe that I will get will be SCH80 so plenty of meat to screw in without going through.

The motor is higher than the pipe body, but once siphon starts, it gets filled completely, submerging the pump. The pump I used is a Maxi-jet 1200 powerhead. It seriously isn't the best pump since powerhead aren't good with head pressure. I used it because of the size of the pipe; it was the only one that would fit right inside the 4inch pipe. A real pump would be alot better.

BTW. I'm from Montreal, but now live on South shore. Still work in Montreal though; those bridges are a pain!!!

the 4 inch was bought at HD, but the 8 inch will be bought at Dubois Agrinovation in St-Rémi. They specialize in crop field irrigation. They have PVC pipes up to 12 inches in diameter!

Good to know, The HD in Anjou don't carry much PVC at all but the one near little itally does (farther to go for me but worth it kinda since they are the only ones that seem to have it in smaller sizes :( )

I am also waiting for the 8 inch version! How long will the 8 inch one be? I will be doing something similar to this one for a goldfish quarantine tank I am working on... I can get 6 inch locally (the HD and the Lowes around me carry it) in 24 inch pieces so that is what I will be doing...

Have you given thought to installing a bulkhead on the flat cap of the PVC? Then you could use any "real pump" that you could fit into the bulkhead...

For the next time. Look into using a mag drive or quiet one pump. They can be run dry above the canister, with a pipe connecting them so you don't have to worry about fitting inside and plsu there will be more room for media.
