DIY canister using a 5gal bucket

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo

I'll going to do one with the "Leaktite screw top lid" but for the gravel cleaner instead and will only put pads inside the 5 gal. The gravel cleaner tube will be the intake and after pasing the tank water through the pads it will be returned to the tank, simple but I think will be effective. I hate conecting that thing to the sink to clean the gravel, it's just a mess. Just my 2¢

This lids are great, applied a little bit of GE silicone 1 to ensure is watertight.

2 - 5gal and 2 - 6gal

A few more to go

Maybe I'll use this to make my gravel cleaner:

Something like the diagram in this picture? Of course I'll use pads instead of gravel or media. By the way: what size pump should i used?

That drawing is exactly like my eheim 2260! I want to make another one and the screw lid looks like the best way to keep the seal. Instead of having to drill hole in side of bucket and keep sealed I think if you made the inlet and outlet come through the lid. With the water inlet a long pipe to reach to the bottom. Could put the inlet tube through a 2nd pipe mounted to the side of the pail with media packed around it.
I have this hooked o a 72gal bow with 9 3-5" sunfish in it and it's planted. I went 6 months before I cleaned I and I think it would have gone 4-5 more if I wanted. I think it uses something like 1050 gal/hr pump.
