Great info Monster Peacock. I know heat does degrade most of the nutrients in the food we eat, and it should hold true that it would do the same for these DIY pellets. My suggestion/question is, has anybody thought to try a dehydrator? It would take longer to prepare the pellets, but the nutrient value would increase greatly. Hopefully I didnt miss anybody suggesting this already.

is it really that neccessary to get worked up on diy pellet nutients ?
I mean, with varied diet of shrimps , meat and diy pellets , wouldn't the fish be getting everything.

Just make these pellets to be around 70% of the food , and vary the rest.

Sort of like those koi grow pellets, color pellets and sustain pellets once grown ( I think we just made the daily bread equivalent of fish food).

Dehydrating is a great idea though , worth investigating further.

I pretty sure the DIY pellets will harden on their own if left out for a couple hours... Heating it just speeds up process so u can make more quicker IMO

I doubt it as meat is involved in the preparation , degradation of meat over time would give out some more water. Hence the need to de hydrate.

Would sun drying be useful here ?

I think sun drying and or using a dehydrator are very good ideas and I have actually done both now. dangerhack is right though by saying to bake them in the oven allows for quicker turn around time. But Id' say go sun drying or use a dehydrator for a more quality food. I have also explored the gelatin fish food and that is actually pretty fun too and easier to make. What's nice about the DIY gelatin fish food is it obviously fresh, nothings cooked so you don't lose anything as in the cooking process and it doesn't smell your house up and piss your wife off...lol Only downfall I can find is you can't store it as easy and it has to be refrigerated so you can't make as much of it up at a time, plus sometimes the wife / GF's don't like to open the refrigerator up with gelatin cubes with eyeballs looking through at her...lol

If anyone would like I could also make a small clip of the DIY gelatin fish food I do..??? At least people who hated on this thread & my pellets wouldn't be able to say jack about the DIY gelatin fish food... Well... Bet they will find something huh...lol

Anyway let me know- if there's enough people who'd like me to share it, ill make a similar video to the one in this thread for for the gelatin food. ;)

Stick it to those high priced fish food manufacturing places. I like your idea and work you have shared with us.
