DIY Co2 injection - need answers!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
awesome... I might try that @ sacrafice of gravel cleaner.. .

Here is the power jet I was looking at: http://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/prod/198208/product.web

Think that will suffice?

So I take it the CO2 Output line goes @ the side / top of the power jet... Then the outlet facing down hooks into the DIY reactor ?

Where are the Co2 bubbles escaping in your setup? Threw the fibers?

Sorry for all the questions!!.. maybe just red Sea 500 Will be easiest through convenience?

no worries about the questions, this is what the forums are for right :)

I didn't have any bubbles escaping though the polyfill, the vacuum cylinder is long enough that the bubbles start to rise against the flow of the pump so they just get tossed around until they dissolve. This may not be the case with stronger powerheads, but I think the one you linked to in your last post should be good. As for the CO2, I drilled a hole in the top of the cap part and inserted it there...but I think it would work just fine if you fed it into the input of the powerhead, the impellar will chop the CO2 into little bubbles and it will enter into the reactor.

I am sure the red sea reactor works well though...

Well, After thinking and long consideration. I am now leaning more towards a DIY Paintball Co2 System.

I feel a DIY Yeast based Co2 system will be more hassle / less convience than what its worth. having to constiantly rotate bottles / shake. Also not to mention to get the proper "mixture" based on environment.

I might try a DIY system for a few days to get everything online. However, I am considering the following:

Mr Aqua blown glass Diffuser / Bubble counter:

Please correct me if this will NOT WORK.

As for Co2 regulators.

I am looking at the one from That pet Place.com -- However, I cam concerned about build quality of the regulator and solenoid.

http://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/prod/239900/product.web

I am also eyeballing:

http://www.marineandreef.com/Milwaukee_Solenoid_Valve_MA957_CO2_Regulator_with_p/rmi00957.htm

Will probably need the adapter for that one?

was even looking at:

http://www.homebrewstuff.com/servlet/the-379/co2-regulator-for-draft/Detail

Will need adapter + needle valve with that one.

NOTE: Without Solenoid -- The co2 system will have to run 24/7 -- Is that correct??? If so.. How will this effect aquarium life when lights are out
