DIY Cold Cathode lighting

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
They're blue and red because those color spectrums are suppose to stimulate photosynthesis

I don't think they will work for plants I dount think the spectrum is of the correct wave length. They do make for awsome moon lights. I have to give you an LOL because I when I set mine up I was that close to using a power supply like you have :-) but I found old batter charger from my rc racing days. Its nice because it has programmable amp settings and dual outputs can run two lights and have one brighter then the other.

Most people just use standard t8's to grow their plants so even if these aren't the right spectrum they should still help =p

For some reason the camera picks it up much brighter than it actually is. Infrared light Maybe?

I'm also interested in how well they work for the plants. I don't think their output spectrum is very wide (similar to LED), so you may need to supplement them with a flourescent tube in the 6,000 to 10,000k range. I don't think the power will be a problem, since they are crazy bright.

EDIT: Your camera sees a lot deeper into the red (IR) & blue (UV) spectrums than your eyes can, so the camera can use more than the amount of perceived light you can see.

cold cathode florescent lighting... I'm pretty sure they're in the spectrum of w/e gas is inside the tube
