let me see if i am understanding this, the coil at the bottom draws water in back to the tank that i am assuming is dripped over the bioballs

A couple of tweaks to the system since it was put up were needed to deal with leaks. I had to cut the tubing at the top and install plastic nipples which were much easier to epoxy to the acrylic. This is now in my design and were part of a second one I build for jaydial. I also moved the flow valve from where it is pictured to ~1' from the effluent. It's actually an air value and not watertight, so now if it drips it is dripping directly into the aquarium and used purely for flow control. I do not 'feed' this system and it requires no maintainance, after it was up and running it took about (4)months to start working and I recieve readings of 10ppm nitrates tank and filter effluent with a VERY poor water change schedule.

Oh which reminds me, you should do a water change today.

The system works by creating an oxygen free environment. The water is very slowly drawn in and DOWN the coil to the main chamber, which is completely submerged in water. The idea being once it gets there the nitrifying bacteria in the tube have exhausted the O2.

The pump is only a $18 (60)gph cheapo. It shouldn't take much!
