I went out in the kayak today in search of some nice "drift wood" for my first monster tank, a 125 all glass. here are some pics. Alot of scrubbing on the big hollow piece. the smaller pieces i trimmed off of it. it is "curing" in a dilution of bleach to kill any organisms living inside. any advice ?

Those are some intersting pieces. How do you prepare them for your tanks?

i plan on scrubbing them down and changing the water in the cooler once a week for a month or untill the wood holds no odors, and it stops leeching tannins.im thinking about adding a powerhead, and a couple air stones to promote some algae growth after a week of the bleach. i scrubbed it with a stainless steel pot and pan pad to remove anything loose. i havent measured the hollow piece but i estimate about 40" long.

Cool wish there was someplace around here where I could find stuff like that. The creek has some nice rocks in it that i have used but not really any interesting wood.

I like the wood. I heard that sodium-bicarbonate will help with the bleach removal when done with the bleach soak.

The result should be Sodium-Cloride & Carbon-Dioxide (Salt {NaCl} & CO2) has anyone else heard this? or would you think that baking soda could be an issue with fish?
