going to try and run one filter for bioload to the 2 pools. The 8ft pool will have 2 fx5s and the 6ft pool 1 fx5

:iagree: its going to be difficult to keep the sump level constant.

you gunna have drip trays over those chambers?
the water from the pump puts it into the biochamber. And as Rottbo said there will be a prefilter right above the drip plate so....pump to prefilter to drip plate to bioballs to another drip plate under the bioballs to the last vat full of media and my heaters.

If you guys can try to edit my pic: show me how I could run an overflow between the two pools?

get like 6" pvc and connect the 2 pools...

if one of your pumps give you got an over flow on your hands

I don't know if your pools a permenent, but if they aren't you could raise the smaller pool up about foot on a strong platform and build an overflow that leads to the larger pond beneath. Have both of your pumps in the larger pool and have your filter above the small pool to return water to the system. That way if one pump goes you still have another keeping the system going. And if they both fail in a power outage, only so much water will spill out of the small pool into the big pool (and with more surface area and volume it shouldn't overflow).

Just a thought.

ok heres what i would do.... the good thing about this idea is that the prefilter is before the pumps so less maintenence on the pumps... overflow sump must be level with both pools.. overflows to the sump are just an upside down U of large diameter pvc.... i also would put your heaters in the sump..... i will take a pic of my setup in the morning its almost exactly the same but only on one pond...
