Ok ! Since we are discussing brilliant plans , why not put it under a leaky tap and be done with ! Afterall it's in the bathroom :D

thats brilliant as well. I guess it would come down to the quality of the water coming out of the tap. Even if it was poor, seems like it can be run through a homemade filtration device.

Ive heard there are plants that eliminate nitrates and other bad elements in the water i read it on MFK in the filter forums....that might work?

in the end you are looking at a full biotope in a small tank. the short of it is you aren't going to get it done. You need some power to add to the system, even the betta tanks need frequent water changes.

Use a sponge filter and run a long azz airline to air pump outside the bath room.

That's what I did was getting anoyed by the buzzing air pump(old air pump too cheap to buy new ones). Found some tubes ran it all the way to the next room. Tubing all tucked underneath carpet and side moldings.

Once I made a vaccum pump sorta thing from an airpump for a friend who wanted those upside down kinda tank by dropping an airpump inside an air tight pet container.
the airpump noise went down drastically.

Try that approach when it iritates you , just ensure a few holes are present so as not to stress the airpump membrane.
