As for the vitamin C I buy food grade ascorbic acid (Kept in freezer in a light proof ziplock) and simply add a small amount during water changes each week.

Ascorbic acid is very unstable & over time will still oxidize even when stored in a freezer. Also, adding a small amount during water changes isn't going to act as any great supplement to a fish. While nutrients such as calcium & magnesium can be absorbed via the gills, vitamin c is best supplemented via the diet.

Carp are pretty sensitive fish, and believe it or not, they feed based on nutritional value of the bait they're offered, so there are some carp guys that are really serious about amino acid and protein content of the boilies, they truly believe the fish will notice a healthier bait.

FYI - I spent years fishing for carp along the Detroit River & various small systems that flowed into it, and I caught plenty of them on simple corn meal & molasses dough balls. The amino acid content was pretty much non existent, and those carp sucked them back like a fat kid eating M&M's. IMO, their keen sense of smell was what triggered the greatest feed response. YMMV

Well, yeah, any fish will act different given different circumstances. Here in the USA, the fishing pressure is pretty much next to nonexistent, so you don't see those kinds of traits in them. Bass on the other hand, won't hit every single spinnerbait that passes by them, because they've seen 100,000 of them. Carp are that way in the UK. They're the #1 sportfish over there, so they've seen truckfulls of corn throughout their lives and know that some corn have little hooks embedded in them. So, they feed based on what is the best for them given their circumstances, and will pick out things that have less nutritional value. IMO, their keen sense of smell is able to determine what bait is healthiest and worth the risk. :)

A keen olfactory sense yes, but able to determine what man made bait food is healthiest for them - I think not. :) If you can post some links to studies that scientifically back some of these Brit's claims up, I'd certainly be interested in reading them.

Not trying to hijack but cant figure out how to start new posts on mobile. I havve been ising talapia shrimp and veggies topped with garlic. Bought everything at walmart for 20 bucks and filled 2x 1 gallon ziplocks. Food processed then froze them. Shattered the frozen food and have nice peices to toss in now. What veggies make sense for peacock bass? Should I be adding v8juice and vitamins? All the fish food packets list pot ash, should I use any?
