Not really. If anything, they're about the same.

DIY vacs arent just made for financial purposes They are often made to properly fit the job in hand. When you have a huge tank, it helps to have a huge vac. I've used some big DIY vacs in my day, a 6" wide, 2' long vac being the biggest.
