I'm not sure if anyone is interested in this but here goes. I couldn't rationalize spending $35 dollars per 50 pounds of gravel at my lfs. So I went to a landscaping company got 150 pounds of pea gravel for $10 total. Then I built a sifter with 1/4 inch screen, sifted through the rocks, and tossed out the larger stuff. I still had about 100 pounds of smaller gravel. I am very happy with the results. I can post pics if anyone wants.

Post away :D.

You'll find that's what a lot of the large tank keepers do (that and pool filter sand)...till they get tired if cleaning it and discover how beautiful a bare bottom tank is .

that looks really good , who would have thought you could go down to the local landscaping company and get gravel that looks better and half the price of the stuff they sell at the lfs.

Be aware that being next to a window, your tank is going to be more prone to algae blooms. Just keep the shades closed and you will be fine :) Nice tank and great idea :)
