Why dont you get 2 large tanks and use dividers with a fine mesh to split into 4? That woukd solve the issue if you wanted to use sponges and could also use one heater to heat each tank
This may be an option too. A single power head would be able to drive the heat to all sections of the tank. Pretty good call here too.

Yes also if you didnt want to use sponges the mesh would allow you to plumb the 2 tanks together without having to worry about each individual tank

You can try something like this.
I'd do air driven, and it'll probably be exactly what I do when I do it.
Ah, I had this thought but I had only heard of it being used to heat air for reptiles. Wasn't sure how well this would work heating tanks full of water. Also I'd imagine it may not be as effective the bigger your tanks get.
 
More coverage on the bottom should do it. I'm heating the entire room for my fish room. Most stuff is at around 78f my pond sits around 74.
