posting bail
A few months ago, I posted some pictures of my rescued iguana and his enclosure in which I put up a background using great stuff and flavipol. recently, the background started to come apart and peel off of the glass leading to Julio (my iguana) to begin trying to eat the great stuff.

Because of this hazard, I am working on remaking the background using pink panther insulation foam and a different mix of flavipol.

the house is a mess right now and I am waiting for the liquid nails to dry but there will be pics of it at least half way done by tonight.

pictures as promised:

this was when I first did the background

Nice your cage its bigger then what I though it was. I must confess that Im not a big fan of that kind of diy in a cage for something so strong like a green ig or of using artificial materials either. I also prefer wood and wood based materials to build ig habitats because it can be more esily cut, its better insolated, etc. But that doesant mean your ig habitat wont work just fine, it should look pretty cool once its done. Keep up with the pics:D

dont know if its worth doing such a nice background with an igg. as he gets bigger he will just rip it down.

i dont even add anything in with my big guy because he will just destroy it

but good luck. cant wait to see finished pics!!

change of plans:

The liquid nails is not holding as well as I had hoped so I had to reapply a lot more and am waiting for it to dry now. I am also going to go and get some concrete to fil in the gaps and help texturize the surface so that it is more organic looking. This should also help with holding everything in place and making it iguana proof. and on top of the concrete, I am going to add the flevopole.

Once it is done, it should be really nice hardy.

Anyone have a suggestion on what kind of mortar or concrete I should get?

I'm at the tail od of making a few vivariums using sculped styrofoam coated with drylock... it was fun to make and turned out great (for weak lil frogs)...

I'm also at the begining stages of building a Tegu enclosure for my 42" 6 lb Tegu. I really wanted to build a background but there is no way the coated styrofoam will stand up to his nails. I considered cutting up scrap 2x lumber and then coating it, but it would make the cage to much heavier...

I decided to just paint the flat back wall with grey drylock... and stick to in cage decor (mulch, stump, hanging branch, etc).

I think you'll make it look awesome, then in time the Iggy will tear it apart... good luck makign it last as long as possible.

I guess you could always cover the background with sheets of cork or cork bark. That way if they started to get ripped apart you could always replace them.

here is the current progress. It is taking way longer than I had hoped but it is still getting there....

here is the tank with all of the concrete in place, I am letting it dry overnight and then I am going to start painting on the peat moss. it should be about ready for Julio to go back in by Thursday or Friday.
