Yeah, but so do most heaters if they malfunction.

Mine won`t.
It can stick on 24/7 and my tank will only hit 80 +or- 1-2 deg.
Of course, if you have more than a couple watts per gallon heater, you are right.

I have one in the stand next to the pump and filter, plumbed inline between the canister and the return spray wand at the top of the tank.
They work as designed.

After cutting the 3/4" repair coupler in half you need to reduce the outside diameter to fit inside a 1 1/2" x 1" reducer bushing.This is the only tricky part, watch your fingers.
