DIY internal filter with an HOB

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ok, so heres the deal, the water isnt high enough for the filter to start so I need to figure something out, the pvc/tree idea sounds cool, a little complicated but I may give it a try, Im working on figuring somehting out with a tupperware container but I have to stabilize it.

Ok, so I went the easy route and just put my ac 70 in a tupperware bin and put a rock under it to stabilize it, so far so good, a little noisy but my girlfriend doesnt mind it so im in the clear. It does take up some space though, but the turtles small now and when he gets bigger I plan on filling the tank all the way and making him an external platform thing, so space shouldnt be a long term issue. heres pictures

You could always try cutting the glass, unsure of how this would work, but saw it in my lfs

If you tried to keep it on the back and extend the intake tube, it might not have a strong enough pump to pull water up that far. But it would be cool to have a cascading waterfall in there.

However, the simple solution is probably the best. Just make sure it's secured well. Hate for the turtle to knock it fully into the water.

Yea, I figured it wouldnt be strong enough if I extended the tube, I was thinking of trying it anyways but I doubt it would work

It works but it kept filling up with water and was worrying me that one day it would short my filter so I replaced it with a little giant submersible pump and turned the tupperware into its own hob filled with media and cut a slit in the plastic.
