DIY led light

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Nice Build, but the acrylic plate will bend after a few months !

I would prefer to use glass or polycarbonate double vertical plates for the strips.
Thank you for the succession. I'm planning to glue some acrylic square bar to handle that problem.

Looks great. I want to put different colour strips on my tank when I get it (blue red and white) and use a switch to mix and match. I have no idea how those colour changing one's work and don't want to spend loads on a device to do it for me.

Hey Hendre! If you get the RGB-W LED strips, it comes with everything you need included in the package. No fancy wiring or or anything. Trim to desired length and mount. It's all plug and play and comes with a remote to change the colors and adjust brightness if need be.

Them be some nice LEDs! IP68 rating! You could have just siliconed those to the inside of the tank frame and been fine. They ARE waterproof to over 3ft.

I cant spend that much on lights...

These are the exact same lights I posted earlier in this thread but off of EBay and only about$20. No need to silicone, they come with the adhesive tape attached on the back. All you need to do is peel off the wax and stick it on

The ones I posted are about $20US
I actually have one of these. They work great except the "white" light is too blue for my liking. Another negative is that these strips won't work with a plug-in timer.

Are you sure? I have these lights and use them in the same fashion in Joey's second light video and mine work on a plug in timer just fine.

The white light is quite blue though, I just keep the secondary color on red and it comes through nice and clear.

It didn't work for me. Maybe there's a hardwired switch or something on the antenna box that needs to be set......I'll look tonight.

The supernights work on a timer. At least my 3 sets do. I purchased the first set like 4 years ago and the newest set is like almost 6 months old. If you play with the color settings you can reduce the blueness of the LEDs. The silicone was meant for the OPs Samsung LEDs that he used. I would not recommend submerging the waterproof Supernight strips as the power leads are left exposed where they connect to the strip.
