Do you guys know how to make one? Im planning on making on and just want to see how some of you guys made yours. I am planning on putting it on a 20g long tank :). Its just my little project. It will be going to a 10g sump. I dont want to drill my tank. I was looking up online and I found the picture bellow. I hope that works because I am seriously thinking about making the same one. http://www.aquariumlife.net/projects/diy-overflow/70.asp

really?
You're even in the right forum

really?
Two of the four stickies show a superior design to your image, IMHO

The U tube has to be shorter on the inside of the tank that way Gravity can pull the water out of the tank.

On a side note IMHO I think your over complicating things. I wouldn't put a box on the outside of the aquarium. I would use PVC and run it right down the back of the tank and underneath. If for some reason that Specimen box on the back clogs your in for a mess IMHO.

Check this one out.

I dont really like the pvc over flow :( I know it works great, but its really not for me. Ill probably try it out since pvc pipes are inexpensive.

and it's easier to make
and it takes up less footprint in the tank
but naow my curiosity tickles
wat is it you don't like exactly?

Dude, it that thing clogs or a siphon is lost(like what happened to me) you will end up pumping out your entire tank onto your floor (like what happened to me lol)

This is the same design as every other overflow out there. It will work just as well. You have the same siphon loss issues with the DIY designs as well.

Studd Muffin;
If you want to make one, make it. My only word of caution would be that you could easily spend more than what it would cost to buy one.

and since you're gonna buy
you might as well buy the best
