ok, so i tried creating a syphon overflow lyk the one in the second post of this thread:

http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=219465

when it started overflowing, it just went straight past the water break line and nearly emptied half of my tank!!!!

i did have one fault tho, i had just an aelbow where the "t" peice should be, do you guys think this is why it didnt work?

^ agree....a fatal flaw in your design

yes the t provides a vent, the elbow with no vent makes it a syphon.

that does make a lot of sense, does the top of the vent pipe have to come over the highest loop ( the one that passes over the tank) or can it be lower?

it would just look nicer if the tip of the vent pipe was in veiw.... ;)

cant be lower or the water will flow out of it....

i wasnt sure if it would work, but i had everything in the house exept from a tee so i thought f*@k it, ill give it a go..... :nilly:

i regretted it as the water came from within an inch of the top of my sump!!! :D

it is not higher on the diagram i pointed out.... is this a fault on the diagram?

surely the water flowing out the tee will prevent it from coming out the stubby vent?

i mite just drill a hole in the top of my tee then...... just kidding lol
