do you guys think this is why it didnt work?

I t didn't work because you decided to build before reading. Try it the other way round.
Also, if you didn't even follow the diagram as it was drawn up, how can you be surprised that it didn't work?

Use the search function. You have a lot of reading ahead of you. Until you completely understand the function of he overflow, its unlikely that you will build a working model.

Have you built a regular PVC overflow before?
You may want to consider going with the original surface skimming design before attempting another style.

i read before building but i simply forgot all pieces so i was experimenting with the design, better than simply reading any day, it provides a much steeper learning curve imho.

i thought the function of the overflow was pretty simple. must be missing something?

i didnt have any diagrams for a tank as little as mine. its better experience giving it a go, trial and error works! also i am a plumber and design similar things on a regular basis, i've never had the luxory of plans before....

Well, enjoy your experiment trying to reinvent the wheel. Hopefully it works out for you. If you decide down the line to rely on the experience of other fishkeeppers who have built many of these in the past, there is lots of I for on the forum on how to do it properly. the search function and a little reading will take out all the guess work.

Good luck.

Do you have to be an ***? The OP is clearly trying and even more important he's sharing his mistakes with us, very rare. A lot of us are learning from this thread.
If you have something to add to the conversation other than "I told ya so" or "I'm smarter than you" then please join the discussion. Jeeze........
To everyone else and the OP I apologize, please continue this discussion.

it is well know that there are a thousand combinations of working overflows with all the differant pipe lenghts, designs etc.

u say to ask on the forums but who started the thread? me...

i'm only trying to share my experiences and discuss the subject mate so no need to have a go at me. :chillpill:

anyway, you seem to be bothered by the fact that i built it before being 100% sure on my design but im a plumber so can get unlimited pipe/fitting supplies for free and i really enjoy trying such things even if they do not work. i find it relaxing and its what i like to do.

:(

Bitteraspects, if you dont like the topic of the thread, just dont post on it. there is no need to send nasty and b*tchy PM's to me.... this is not what i joined the forum for, i joined to learn and share information.

It doesn't bother me at all. I'm simply trying to save you from yourself. Like you were told in the last 2 threads, all the info is out there and has been discussed to death.
If you decide to try it on your own, more power to you. But youll save yourself a lot of trouble by reading the stickies and following the designs and charts posted there. Those designs are tried and true, and many members here have built them with no flooding problems. The stickies are there to help you if you chose to use them.

But hey, you're the plumber. What do I know.

Goodd luck and dry floors. ;)

stop being so cocky, it's really not attractive.

as i said, i struggled to find a plan for a tank as small as mine

i did a test run on a drip overflow last night. worked perfect except drain t was a little to high and didnt install air check valve or intake screen. im going to install 2 compression unions so i can adjust the water level height and intake strainer depth without having to build a new 1. so no glue on the 2 long pipes makes adjustments easy.
