DIY Overflow variation!

The black tubing is just something I had laying around to test with. I plan on the prefilter and some bracing just haven't gotten that far yet. Also the nylon screws for adjusting are being a pain to find locally.

home depot or lowes should have them in the big blue screw bins, my local lowes has them, also lots of internet sites have them, but i would rater buy it in person cause i have hard time understanding length and thread pattern and that stuff if i see it in person then i can tell if its going to work, if i had more time i would pull it up for you but keep up the good work cant wait to see it running
 
you made a diy hob overflow? :confused:

you know they sell these right?

I could buy one but it would still cost more than the one I'm making:naughty:
 
I applaud your effort but if you're already spending $32, you might as well spend a few more bucks on a pre-made one. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=18358. It includes the U-tube so you don't need to do anything other than tubing to the sump.

Also if you look at your overflow and the one from the product link you're missing the baffle or something to create a reservoir in the middle so that during a power outage it will still start . I'd be worried if the power goes out cause your sump will run dry.

Well the Overflow I would need is rated at 1200 GPH for ~$64. so double what I built mine for. If yo ulook at mine I have the bulkheads inside out so water will always remain in the rear side to keep siphon. I've been testing this on and off. I prefer this one as it is clear in the tnak versus Black which will stand out terribly on a greyish background.
 
Apparently someone needs to find a spot where we can get bulkheads for cheap.
