I will build a model of it in Google Sketchup when I get Windows back on my computer. (I run Linux)

Good for you sir! I have been a Linux Mint fan since they started modifying Ubuntu. I have Linux on 3 of the 4 computers in my house. Would be all 4, except I need to keep the original OS on my Alienware Desktop for gaming (I'm Beta testing Final Fantasy XIV Online)

Right now = 4 year old Compaq - Mint 5, 2 year old Alienware Laptop - Mint 7, 6 Month old HP Netbook - Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.10, and an Alienware Desktop - Win XP-MCE. I also had a 10 year old Compaq Laptop running Damn Small Linux RC4 that I just sold. You'd think an old compy like that would be too slow eh? Not with DSL RC4... man it was FAST!!!

Don't do it. :)

I've run only Linux on my home computers for nearly 5 years now. I have no desire to put windoze on any of my computers. I wish I could use Linux at work too. Have you ever tried Blender? I use it for all my sketching ideas. If you want to try it and have questions, feel free to pm me....

Keep Linux. Get Blender and The Gimp. Free. Opensource. Win.

Sorry I jumped the gun starting this thread. Please be patient. I am having to tweak the filter to get it working where I want it.

If you need to tweek more, just use a BFH and smash the bloody thing. It'll get the tweeking done in no time and then we can start reading on your DIY OHF thread.

linux talk and over head filters?... subscribed

excited to see the ins and outs. I'm a fan of the overhead idea, always like to see more variations

OK,

Well I got it quieted down. Nothing more than a pleasant trickle. But I can't get rid of the micro bubbles from the output pipes. I have tried a few ideas to no success.

I am playing with a couple ideas, like capping the current bulkheads and getting a couple new ones and putting them on the sides and creating a gentiler slope to the tank. Creating some type of bubble trap.

Maybe next year I will build a new filter. I have a few changes in mind that I will post pics of soon.

Any thoughts of getting rid of the bubbles will be greatly appreciated. The water in the tank is super clear, and the bubbles are detracting from the clear water.

BTW for those who commented, I kept the Linux..... Very happy I did

Bubbles were the least of my worries. The media clogged, and overflowed :(...... So back to the drawing board, and I am doing a little redesign using homemade filter socks from felt, and pool strainer baskets. Will post pics soon.
