Diy pellets?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Uruaryjoey has a YouTube channel and had some DIY food. They were pellets but had some gelatin in it to make more organized and little squares to feed fish. Sorry for misspelling his name, did it phonetically.

Let me clarify they weren't pellets but maybe another option. Sorry the autocorrect on iPhone kills me.

I used the gelatin recipe for my RTC when I had him and added my own mix of things it's effective gets all the nutrients in does not cloud the tank like pellets eventually do and it lasts a while and they love it too much better option IMHO. If you want to make pellets though there are loads of vids on YouTube just search DIY fish food

I make a batch of gel food once a week so it stays as fresh as possible.

I use NLS as a base - but then add lots more of the "good" stuff fresh to round out the diet.

Making your own pellets I think would be a decrease in nutrition from what you are currently buying and feeding.

I use:

NLS
Spirulina
Nori

Shrimp
Salmon
Scallops
Silverside

Krill
Mysis
Spirulina brine
Reef Plankton
Bloodworms

Pumpkin
Sweet potato
Spinach
Tomato
Garlic

Vitamins (Vitachem)
Gelatin
Water

Fish love this - its fresh every week - and could get much better I dont think.

The only reason i ask is cost. I am feeding my RTC raw shrimp and fish fillets. Seafood in my area is crazy expensive. so i was trying to figure a way to stretch it a bit. I will look on youtube and see what i can find.

I hope it works out.

Feeding these fish isnt cheap - but its part its part of the hobby.

My fish eat a lot better than I do.

Yeah. I don't mind the money. But I would like a way for the money to go a little further. I looked at the diy videos on youtube. I think i am going to try the gel type.

I have a bunch of hikari cichlid pellets that i am not using. So i am going to try mixing those with the raw shrimp and fish fillets. that should work.

It will.

I actually think that what I make is cheaper than the cost if I just fed commercial pellets and healthier than either pellets or raw foods.
