I'm going to loose sleep after to seeing those pictures. Are those plastic lamp bases on those fixtures? Were those incandescent grow lamps that your using? Does your insurance cover fires caused by DIY modified light fixtures?

What bulbs are you using? They look like 40w....you should see what the max is for the fixture because fish need more light than that.
Fish have lighting recommendations? So where did ya come up with this one? Do you have a chart cause I'm sure not all fish are the same are they?
BTW if you would READ his original post instead of just pointing out grammer needs you would have read that the lamps he used are 65 watt.

thanx the lamps are pc but i can use up to 100 watt incandecent if i am not happy with light output i will increase it and the cheap fixture in the other pic is the basis of these lights i just dressed it up

What I meant by "fish need more light than that" is with three 65w bulbs about ~4 ft above the tank, not a lot of that light will make it to the bottom of the tank. For really cheap and decent light quality, Use florescent tubes... Lots of them.

You can get Compact flourescent flood lights with mirrored backs inside the bulbs in a variety of kelvins. 10K would be the best. Algae would be from water quality more so than the lamps themselves. Phosphates in general will be the biggest contributing factor to algae.
I would recommend 3 150/200w flood lamps in PC at 10K.

thanx for touchin up the pic lights will be 6 inches from the top of the tank when it is sitting on the stand i am going for subdued lighting i think fish act more naturally under these conditions if i dont like the look with these fixtures i can upgrade to brighter bulbs without changing fixtures

They are beam lamps which should create some pretty cool lighting effects. I have decided to change my tank design from 8x4x2 to now 8x6x3 which will certainly require more lighting...
This is just a hobby for me to I dont plan on spending $5000 on lighting like some people do but I also would like to see and enjoy my fish. The brighter, the better! IMO... well there is such a thing as TOO bright of coarse.
