I built this stand just under a year ago for my 72"x18"x18" tank as the one it came with had seen better days. I built it in my back garden with a few hand power tools in august and stored it in my passage between my house and next doors when it rained and bought it back out when the weather was nice .The carcass is 18mm mdf which gave me a good base to start from and to glue the pine too, once it was completed. All the joints were glued and biscuit jointed together with only screws in the carcass.I11705122_932502706791926_3538568648623765080_n.jpg 11714488_932966556745541_118698689_n.jpg 11122000_932966563412207_1028820629_n.jpg 11655541_933006946741502_887999794_n.jpg 11881020_950132358362294_1024400943_n (1).jpg gave it 3 coats of water based varnish to seal the whole thing. This stand is now sold and waiting collection as i have started a bigger and better solid hardwood build .

So what part of the stand is the tank sitting on? The 3/4 mdf, or is it sitting on the pine panel frames you made?

The tank is sat on 18mm mdf then 20mm pone top then another 18mm mdf and 25mm polystyrene to bring the tank higher so i dont losr too much viewing because of the bottom rail

Personally, I would not choose that design for me, since I don't trust my woodworking skill that much, but you apparently have quite a bit of carpentry skill and experience. Well done!

Oh okay, from the pics it looked like it was just sitting on a sheet of mdf and the mdf sheet was sitting on 4 vertical sheets, carrying all the weight. So is the side face frames with legs sitting directly under the tank? The front face frame too?

It does look really nice btw.

no bud the mdf carcass is exactly the same size as the tank and has an 18mm back screwed on then where the middle 2 dividers are had a piece screwed underneath them so there are 4 points that hit the floor (if you look at my iroko stand build its is built the same way) when i added the pine frame to the tank and base they are exactly the same width i did not want them to look different
