lets not cost him a ton of money now, i think the best thing to do would cut a piece like 8"x8" and do double coats all the way around, stick in a bucket of water, submerse it, put a rock on it or something, then pull it out in a week or so and cut it in half to see if any water has leeched its way through...., do two pieces that way, and beat the crap out of the other one :D

Well than we wont know witch product is better...

well im going to start construction of a 465gallon cinder block pond within the next few days so ill let ya know how it works out.

Drylok on hardipanel has worked for me, and I know of two others that have used it directly on wood (although I wouldnt recomend it) with no problems yet. I dont really see the need to try the behr on a project, unless it is strictly a test project. But hey, thats how we all learn I guess. The specs on holding back water pressure can probably be thrown out the window because we are doing the exact opposit by pushing water against the paint.Oh well thats enough rambling from me. Good luck.

how much was a sheet of hardipanel?

and weather its 10lbs of pressure pushing in or out that is still way better then 1lb

Put a layer of Hardi Panel down and liquid nail it to your plywood, let the liquid nail dry then paint it with the drylock or Behr masonry paint. The Hardi panel is a masonry board that is 3/8" thick and comes in 4'x8' sheets. Its already water proof on its own. although I'm not to sure about the Algaecide in the Behr you never know what its long term effect on fish might be.
