DIY Pond Liner

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Check your amperage on those pool pumps, most pool pumps require more power to run than pond pumps. You may be spending more money for power (over time) than you are saving on initial cost.

With any liner it is a good idea to rinse it off prior to final filling. A lot of liners will use talc so they unfold easier, i would rinse that as well. Even if it says fish safe, a little scrub will only take a few minutes.

The pond is supposed to lie fallow for a few months keeping regular filtration and adding ammonia AFAIK.

It will be scrubbed down and hosed off. I am not sure if I can get it in time for this season though :( Even if it is installed it may not be fish ready until next spring :/

Thanks for the tip! The pond is actually much larger than the pool.

Pool 15' X 30' X 4'

Pond 30' x 30' x 8'

My neighbor has a koi pond without any filters, wave makers or heaters and he is doing well (10' x 6' x6'). His problem (is)are the predators (that come off my property); mink, heron, raccoons and king fishers.

I've heard many a story about mink. Hope he takes care of them....

I'd love to see some mink come to my pond! Only thing we get here in KY is raccoon's, possums, and the occasional heron.... or maybe a crow.

the mink dug through the ice and ate the koi ... they live trapped it and sent it elsewhere. I will have mine within view of the house so I know the racoons will be there.
