DIY pvc overflow flow rates

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
pretty sure the first design you pictured won't work. the one w/ a single pipe in the tank won't work for your flow, either. i used 2 1/4" on mine w/ 870 gph @ 6'

I'll bring a thread back from the dead. Does anyone know the new to flow rates with Joey's new design. He said they're much more efficient but there's no numbers I could find
I’m unaware of a new design.
Could you post a diagram or link? I would like to check it out.

Ah ok thanks for the video.
This isn’t really “new” this has been around for a while.
I was building and using this style of overflow with an actual weir box well over ten years ago.
I guess it was the word new that threw me.
The design is basically the same as the ones posted above. The only difference is the additional weir pipe.

As for flow rates with these overflows the amount of drop that you have will determine how much you actually get to flow through a given diameter pipe
There will be variations in flow depending on how you build it.
The chart below will give a basic idea of gravity flow versus pressurized flow.

I'm just curious if anyone can up with a new chart with his increase in efficiency. He's claiming 60% increase do that means I only need one 1" overflow for my 125 if that's the case
Without him testing it as compared to some other design and properly calculating flows of both I wouldn’t count on his claims being accurate.
How many gph are you trying to achieve?
