Guys I have seen a lot of DIY 2L Soda Bottle Fluidized/Moving Bed Filters used in tanks on Youtube. Most of them use K1 Kaldness media.

Its good bit a bit pricey. Can you guys suggest cheaper alternatives for media for DIY Soda Bottle Fluidized/Moving Bed filters instead of K1 Kaldness

I apprecoate your suggestios. Thanks.

Plastic Shotgun wads they work good, or cut up pieces of straws about .5 inch long each it's enough surface area for the bb to stick to them I made one myself with straws. At first the straws will float to the top of the bottle but once bacteria gets on them they turn darker in color and start to move around a lot usually bacteria builds after a week or two. Mine works well I use it on a qt tank

Oh yeah.... how many straws do you use?

2/3 of the bottle filled don't fill it too much because when the bacteria builds you want the straws to be able to move around

I've used straws on all my diy fluidized filters, beats k1 in price, not the same performance, but heck straws are 95% cheapers.

I am intrigued by the wad idea. What did you do to get the lead off?
