I am just about finished building my first aquarium stand, The stand is for a 55 gallon that was given to me and I used the instructions from this site( the ones with the different colored boards in the drawing ). These plans are very good and you cannot build a stronger stand then this in my opinion. The only part of the build that I had to keep double checking is that the stand would be level once it was complete. I did have to start using wood shims to make adjustments and in the end it is completely level and sturdy sitting on the basement floor. All the wood was purchased from home and depot and I had them do the cuts for the 2 x 4 framing and the oak plywood and the cuts were accurate. I cut the trim to fit and I am still working on the trim. I will be staining in a few days but I have not decided what stain to use, I will build a canopy for this tank with the same red oak plywood and 1 x trim. I am very happy with it and I think it’s going to look great once I get it all set up. Too bad it is for the basement because it looks 10 times better than the standard store bought pine stand I have upstairs. This 55 will be home to the vieja syns. I got 2 months ago. I know the 55 is to small so I will start building a stand for the 120 that I am going to get, maybe next year. I like the 6 foot tank. Thanks for reading and below are some pictures. More to follow.

Looking good. Why can't it replace the stand upstairs though (when you get it finished that is)?

Well I have gone and built a canopy for the upstairs tank and it looks much better now. I am going to use an orbital sander on the base and then repaint it with a good satin black pant. Ill post some picture of it soon.

Looking good!

This is one of the best stand builds I have seen, good job. I see you used a ton of wood glue, does that stuff really hold ? How long before it dries where you can remove the clamps ? What type of plywood did you use ? Is that also plywood you used for the top and bottom trim or is 1x ? All the wood looks the same type.
