DIY stand for 125g tank.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks. I've gotten the whole exterior stained, and the interior sealed. I'll seal the exterior tomorrow after work and it will be ready for the tank! I'll try to get some pics up tomorrow night too.

hmm i would recommend putting some styrofoam padding between the stand and the bottom of the tank to even out some of the pressure

can i get one of these built for my 8 foot tank!?!?!?!?!

very nice. I would have tossed another coat of stain on it to try and even the tone but the construction is very clean. good job.

Nice looking setup. This is identical to what I would like to do, so I may steal your idea (but not pass it as my own of course) Thanks for the DIY!

Well, depends on the size of the tank...

You don't have to separate the panels, just scrape everything out from the inside with the tank still intact.

Would have been a 125, but the guy on craigslist sold it to someone else after promising it to me. :irked:

For future reference, though, if the leak was at a single seam, should I have taken off all the silicon inside and have redone the entire tank or just have redone that seam? I'm not sure how well the new silicon would have bonded to the old stuff.

I took off all the old silicone, just to be safe. If one factory seam fails, then I figure they're all probably bad, so better just to redo it right the first time. It'd be a real witch to just redo part of it, set it up, and have it fail in your living room, huh?

that sucks about the tank....

I would've taken more pics of the frame construction, but I forgot to take my camera with me to my dads house, where we did most of the work. Just for reference, I used the 2"x4"x96" Top Choice Studs from Lowes. They are the best 2x4's they carry. Very straight, few chipped edges or cracks, and they're mostly identical dimensions.

Here's some pics of it nearly finished. I just have to seal the outside and add doors and its done. A friend helped me empty the tank (really fun in 20F weather), and bring it in and put it on the stand. Check out the fat catfish in the last pic... ;)
