Starting to make my plans and supply list for my 1st DIY stand and had a question about height.
Planning on doing a "in wall" look 125 gallon tank in my basement. Room behind is open so I will be cutting a hole in the wall to view. Problem is I want it to be higher than an normal stand as I want to be able to have some chairs and a table under the hole in the wall.
Tank needs to be about 4ft tall at the bottom and top of the tank will be around 6ft in the air. Floor is nice and level concrete. Concern is around stability, do you think that 2X4's is enough or should I go with 4x4's or maybe 2x6's. Maybe just 2x4's with some extra cross supports and or plywood sides and back to give it support. I will also use metal strapping to attach the stand the the wall.
I plan to build it in the typical fashion like below.
My other question is on width how much bigger than the tank should the frame of the stand be? I was thinking about 1/2 inch all around but would it be a bad idea to do it 6" bigger on all sides?
