DIY Stand.. Under $50 and No Engineering Problems

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I was just at a consultation where the guy wanted to place a 265 gallon tank on the third floor. I dont know if you guys have seen the new engeneered beams, but we needed to find out if it could support the tank and the rest of the stuff on that floor and they said that the new beams can hold 2000 lbs per 18 inches. I believe, that its that much. Pretty close anyways. Point being that you can really do some crazy things with just plywood. My big thing is look how its made by the pros and anything more is just beefy!

I am no engineer but I was on a site that was using one of those beams. Was that estimate for a 20' beam? I bet a 4' beam could hold a multiple of that.

Thats what my 55 is on and it was free :)

Sorry to grade dig but I need a stand for 4 55's. Will this stand be safe with the 4x4's in one piece and one stack of blocks in the middle. I would also like to go just a little longer on the 4x4's so I can clean the sides of the lower 55's. Honestly I would like to do away with the middle column all together so I could make the stand narrower.
