Well i PVC glued it together now, at least the outside anyways

I noticed your overflow T is in the wrong position. In the position you have when electricity shuts off the overflow will drain down to the surface pipe and then all the water will drain from the overflow loosing your prime. This is from the sticky showing how the overflow works with the T in the correct position. This is why you had to lean the inlet pipe at an angle because the water drains from the overflow because of the T location...
