DIY Sump Help

Those aren't bioballs their ceramic rings, but anyways turns out the mag drive 5 is actually a mag drive 3. But at 4' 200 gph is good enough for a 55 gallon right? If I used a filter sock and just put a bunch of ceramic rings in the sump, would I really need baffles? Wouldn't the filtration be the same? I'm thinking some like this *Red is return line, Black is overflow line

It's for a 55 but I have a rena xp2 and a penguin biowheel filter, I just have a spare 10 and a mag drive 5 that I picked up for 20 dollars, so I might as well build a sump. So I don't need baffles at all? And the filter sock would cover the mechanical filtration so I could just fill it with ceramic rings?

Yes, just give the sock enough room to flow.
