Bought a sheet of plastic stuff, it's been referred to as 'egg crate', comes as a 23.75 in. x 47.75 in. sheet of squares, like a hollow grid that's about 1/4" thick. Some of you have used it for dividing their aquariums. I have a few questions. If you can help, it would really make my Friday! :) How is it held in place in the tank? Also, it's easy to cut with a scissor, but leaves a sharp end where it's cut - what's the best thing to use when cutting it to size needed? It was only about $12, but don't want to waste my time doing it wrong, or end up hurting the fish. Tia.

The plastic seems kind of brittle and very stiff. Have any problems with it cracking/breaking while you're cutting it to size?

I use metal snips to cut mine.

And I use large suction cups to keep it in place... place the suction cups on each side of the egg crate.

The stuff that you've used, was it supposed to be used for those flourescent lights that go into the ceiling? Because that's what I'm using. Just want to make sure I'm not using something different than you are.

Yepp. Same thing.

silicone is the best... u can scape with razor when done if short term...

What if you need the divider in the tank once it's up and running? You can't put silicon on it then..

This is going into an already established tank. It's going to divide a 36"x18"x18" tank. Still deciding on which way to divide it .

Sure it'll break if your cutting it with scissors. It's not paper it's hard plastic. :grinno: Use wire cutters to get a clean cut and oversize it SLIGHTLY like already mentioned and just wedge it against the two glass sides and bury it in the substrate slightly. Super easy...
