I am just confused on how you are taking the motor off of canister filters. I am pretty sure that on my fx5 the motor is built on.

i ve removed the motors from alot of canisters. i dont own and fx5 but your telling me when the motor goes out the entire unit is useless? no way. theres a way to pull that motor off. majority of the motors ive taken out are fluval. twist plastic cover and remove. slide motor out, and replace plastic cover. water path is still there but your using the sub pump to move the water instead if the inline motor in the canister.

and your not removing the motor housing just the propeller, magnet, and rod.
