DIY W/D filter (sump)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
my tank is small and only a temporary home for my aro...it's a 135 gallon but i will have a 300 by spring:headbang2 A 240 is pretty much minimum size for a full grown silver. I currently use a MagDrive 9.6 that supplies MAD flow! And I made my own wetdry out of a 38 gallon rubbermaid container and a 5 gallon plastic bucket full of pot scrubbers. Workin like a charm! Hope this help!!:)

What do you think about a Quiet One 3000, it has 780 ghp with I think no restrictions(fully submersible)? Any experience with the Quiet One series? I know Rallysman likes them. Also one more thing, if your looking from a bird's eye view, my tank has the two glass panels along the sides of the tank, and my two filters cover about the entire space from the end of one side to the other panel, so in order to make the overflow it would have to go over the glass 1-2 inches and then down (I'll post some pictures in a couple of days when I get the rest of the PVC), or it could go over one of the filters, or anyone with this problem have a solution, besides take one of the filters off? If you understand at all what I just said, do you think it will still work?

if you get a pump with 780 gph (we'll call it 500 gph with head on it) plus your flow of 850 gph from your existing filters your tank is going to be like a whirlpool. Are you having a problem with bioload? (Ammonia and nittites not being converted) What do you have in there? Unless you are planning on taking one of those off I don't see why you would need that much filtration (I know that statement is sacralige to some people on here so please don't be mad at me:naughty: ) but 15 x turnover is too much in my opinion unless you have river dwelling species that appreciate a lot of flow. Just my 2 cents.

and I realize the magnum is not much of a biofilter so maybe you should lose that if you're planning on making the sump
