if you set up the over flow like this (at the very beginning of the video) and instead of going into the pipes, it would just go into the holes.

it wont be all the weight of the tank coming down the hole, just the over flow. you can adjust the height of the over flow also to adjust the height of the water in the tank. then if your pump does fail at the bottom of your sump, once the water gets below the over flow it will stop dumping water.
depending on how much your over flow flows, will depend on how much pump you need to pump it back up.
i would also go larger than 10 gals, that leaves you no room to stuff it with filters and bio balls and a pump.
