i am figuring that glass tanks are the best quality because glass is made of sand and it is always recommened to use glass in cooking /microwaving etc. now acrylic is made of petroluem which to me seems like it would be like microwaving saran wrap (since we are heating the water ) and it leaching out bad stuff (that has been proven to be unhealthy)
also the sealent used in acrylic tanks seems to have noxious fumes that has to leach into the water after dry. is it safer to use glass?

Yes, it likely would be safer to use glass if you are microwaving your aquarium. Though I'm not sure of the effect the microwaves will have on the silicone sealant.

microwaving and heating your aquarium are 2 very different things and should not be compared it gets a ****load hotter inside a microwave than the water does.

yes certain plastics can leach chemicals into the water but acrylic isn't one of them

well, i was just giving an example. LOL
and it is also hazardous to drink an open bottled water that has sat in a car. not necessarly a microwave. just a bit of heat leaches chemicals into water from a plastic.

i am just concerned over the long term health effects of acrylic.
any foundings?

Drinking water from the aquarium is not a good idea either.

Acrylic aquariums have been around quite a few years never heard of any issues.

Umm interesting. This dude wants to microwave his aquarium. :screwy:

yes the chemical that leaches form plastic water bottles is bisphenol A which acts as estrogen in the human body even if it did leach into the water it would have no effect on fish as estrogen in a mammalian (or human can't remember if all mammals produce it) Hormone besides it's only the cheap plastics that do this and acrylic is anything but cheap
