the following information is provided by ulrich Alsfasser
so will be 100% correct

Sexual dimorphism: Males grow larger

Other Varients: Channa marulia is NOT a variant of marulioides or vice
versa.

I have kept a female marulioides in a 6x2x2 for 4 years. She peacefully coexisted with a osphronemus laticlavis until she reached 20 inches. To keep these fish in pairs or with other fish larger aquaria are needed. Many years ago I had the priviledge of seeing a picture or a marulioides teeth. There are rows of small teeth, what I can best discribe as being similar to a very coarse sandpaper. Channa marulioides have no incisors. This and my fish's preferance of shell fish leeds me to the conclusion that Channa marulioides predominarily feeds on crustations. This however does not stop the fish from taking other fish as I found out in the case of 4 spanner barbs my ever so peaceful fish ate over night at 18 inches in length

Channa melanoptera appears to be a possible synonym of marulioides
Bleeker described marulioides in 1851 and melanoptera in 1855
Bleeker describes melanoptera closed to marulioides.
Recently my believe in this has been put into doubt
Any information on this subject would be greatly appreciated
