Do cans lose their color after laying eggs?

They still have colour - females will always have the orange/pink belly no matter what their mood or breeding status - but it certainly fades quite a bit after spawning. The intensity of my female lets me keep track of when I can expect babies. She's extremely colourful when ready to spawn, and as soon as her and her man do their thing, she's very pale. She stays pale for the next couple weeks as they raise their fry, and then she'll start to colour up again ready for the next round.

All the females I have ever kept didn't always have an orange belly, both pink and striped convicts. There were times when there was no color at all.

Well, they should always have it, even if you really have to look for it, its there.

LOL...no, it's not...not on any of the ones I keep. Maybe it varies from fish to fish but trust me, I watch my fish closely and after laying eggs the orange on my females goes away.
