I am considering installing a check valve on my return line from my sump. Do the valves reduce flow? I like the idea of not having so much return to my sump when the pump is off but I don't want to loose any circulation.

I heard they eventually become clogged and will reduce flow, however they sell ones on marinedepot that are connected to two unions allowing you to take it apart and clean it with relative ease. Their check valve is also made of clear material, so you can gauge when to clean it.
By how much is the flow reduced? This one seemed pretty legit.

As stated, any obstruction causes reduced flow due to increased friction on the water flow. Flap valve type check valves cause the most friction and can clog. More expensive ball-type check valves have the least friction and are less prone to clogging.
I want to say 20-40gph. I use the same one on my return, only had it 3 months so to soon to say how good it is
Ok that doesn't sound too bad. I am getting a new sump for my 270 gallon and am upgrading parts of the plumbing.
I could probable live with 20-30 gph. I found one in the plumbing department it is pvc and threaded at either side. it looked like the ball type above but used a flap and stainless steal spring.
it was 12 bucks so I can try it, they ran out of 1 inchers which is my return size. It looked like this.
