do cichlids really eat snails.I was wondering would they eat them if i crushed the shells

I think that you might notice it more when your cichlids get larger. Like if the snails are in the tank. Cause I have some smaller ones that dont really pay the snails any attention, but I have a large oscar that eats them all the time. Even those garden ones from outside.

oh yeah, several cichlids in the wild dine almost primarily on snails. there are a couple of Herichthys species that primarily eat snails. they'll dive snout first into the substrate in search of snails or other tasty morsels. Rusty Wessel gave an awesome presentation this past January at the Cincinnati fish club and he had underwater pics and videos of several different Herichthys species feeding, breeding, searching for food for their broods of fry etc. :)

Oh yea I feed my oscar as many pond snails as I can find in my tanks once a week and he happily crunches them all up.

Many of the apisto species feed on snails...many parachromis eat snails because of there teeth...but I know tht labs..eat small snails..

But would a 7 inch buttikoferi eat a large apple snail if i crushed it.do reddevils eat snails

My large buttikoferi just pushes it around the tank like its tryning to crack it.

Hey, who cares if he actually eats it, its good he plays around with it and has some fun. Fun for you to watch as well....:)
