My pair of columbians are acting very strange the past two days ..laying on top of each other.. never far apart, not swimming or eating like they always do,took all the gravel away in one area.. and one has black little things on its fin on each side of its body... just curious is this their breeding ritual??

mine are in 125gal .. post their pics when you get them.

What kind of water are they in right now? Because I would assume that the large adults in nature would be in brackish water and then go to fresh to spawn...so you could probably simulate that to stimulate the breeding process...

Just a thought :D

Good Luck!

They are in a lightly salted tank..not really brackish but not fresh water either... i can't wait to see if any thing is different this am..thank you.

Are those Arius graeffei or A. berneyi? If so they are known as salmontail cats in Australia and they breed readily if you have the space. So plentiful they are almost considered a pest. You can incubate with a cone incubator (like a funnel) and there should be heaps of info available. Some of the Arius spp get pretty large....

They are called Columbians shark cats,Black fin shark cats, Jordons cat fish, west american cat and Arius Seemani ..so i do not think that we have the same cat in mind.. these are suppose to have never been bred in an aquarium..can i see some pics of the ones you know of.. They come from pacific rivers from southern california to columbia..thanks! Oh and so far only one is not eating..possibly because he is carrying the eggs.. but i will know more as time goes on.
